Ok seriously...

By 7h3d4rkw0lf on Jan 23, 2011

For all those that are bitching that \"we aren\'t spelling the names properly\", will you please grow a pair and just shut up? We\'re following spellings provided by ANN which you can read for yourself here

Last time I checked, ANN was a plenty reliable, and official source of information. If they provide an alternative spelling and we want to spell it that way, guess fucking what, we\'ll spell the fucking name that way.

And it\'s a goddamn name, it\'s not a Japanese name so spelling will always be a gray area, so seriously, can you all stfu? If you\'re really going to start raging and flaming over NAME SPELLING, then you guys seriously need to just... I\'m going to stop here before it turns into a full blown rant.

TL;DR, GROW A PAIR AND GTFO

Sorry, I am a female, and I have the right to dispute the names of characters. Telling me to obtain male genitals is very sexist and I find it very offensive. Please, refrain from such language.

People who bitch about the stupidest things piss me off =.=

If they were complaining about mistranslations, typos, etc etc, then I\'m all for it, that\'s my mistake for putting those errors in there.

It\'s not like I\'m just making up the spellings for the name either, I\'m taking spellings from OFFICIAL sources, and I did so to make SURE people couldn\'t start complaining. Yet here they are, still complaining.

I can\'t understand any of your subs. Can you release them in kanji and kana?

  • January 26th 2011, 2:16 pm

    Troll comments are generally ignored.

Although releasing a troll sub with jap subs might be funny.

So basically, you acknowledge the fact that you are spelling the names wrong and are willfully continuing to do so. And if anybody points out that you are blatantly wrong, you tell them to suck it up and deal with it. Way to be.

And to all the people who want to view this show without the botched names, I believe AnimeONE is still subbing it.

  • January 28th 2011, 6:41 pm

Not once did I ever say I was spelling it wrong. I said I am spelling it the way that ANN provides.

Tell ANN to remove the alternate spelling and I\'ll release a v2 of every episode and change the names to what everyone wants.

And honestly, I still don\'t see why everyone is complaining about name spellings.

All we did was point out you mistake. You\'re the one that went and made an ass of yourself.

  • January 29th 2011, 12:35 am

Please explain. While I may have seemed explosive to you in particular, I\'ve been getting the same complaints over and over and over again, and it sort of gets on my nerves. We\'re subbing for those who don\'t understand Japanese, we\'re taking our time from our lives to sub these things, we\'re subbing because we want to help people, and when people waltz along in going, \"Oh hey you guys suck, do this this and that\" when what we\'re doing is perfectly fine, sort of just doesn\'t make sense. I made a mistranslation on a pun in one of the episodes. A guy pointed it out, I said, \"oh, thanks, my bad.\" because it WAS my miss, and I thanked/apologized for the error. People suggested we do chapters, so we put in chapters. However there is not a SINGLE thing wrong with our name spelling. Unless you\'re telling me that ANN likes to lie to us about name spellings, I\'m going off of an official site with official information on the show. I\'m not waving some unheard of site in your faces, I\'m using one of the three MAJOR informational sites as my backing. If you\'re STILL complaining, I really don\'t know. You should probably go sub the show yourself and do it your way then. We\'re not changing the name spelling until ANN changes it\'s databases.

That begs the question of why you\'re even subbing this show. You clearly aren\'t any kind of Lovecraft fan if you didn\'t know the names of the characters. I\'m guessing you just needed a short easy series to do after you just finish your first semester of Japanese. That would also explain why you think that it\'s so hard to translate.

Also, don\'t try to act so noble. What you\'re doing is completely illegal no matter how you look at it.

  • January 29th 2011, 4:42 am

The fact that you\'re just trolling now and trying to piss me off is more than evident, so I\'ll just tell you a few things. One, you are indeed correct I don\'t know Lovecraft much. The most I know about it is that it\'s not some super serious story, which I knew BEFORE starting to sub this mind you. Secondly, if you\'re calling my 17 years of life speaking Japanese at home with family as \"a single semester\", then sure, I\'ve been taking a \"semester\" of Japanese. Thirdly, I don\'t quite get your logic in coming to the conclusion of, \"hard to translate\" considering we had the eps out and translated/error checked/etc within an hour or two of acquiring the raws? Oh did I mention that of those one or two hours, more than half is spent waiting to render the vid in After Effects for the hard subbed ED? Yeah stop talking shit you fucking weeaboo.

  • January 29th 2011, 4:45 am

Oh if you\'re calling what we do as illegal, then you better stop watching subs altogether or you\'d be one hell of a large hypocrite.

So if this anime is quick and easy to translate then why are you complaining about \"taking time out of your life to sub these things\"? Because it\'s so trivial to translate, how hard is it to go back and fix some misspellings?

But I want to know why you\'re translating an anime that is based on the works of Lovecraft if you don\'t know anything about Lovecraft? There are other groups translating this show, so there\'s no real use for your attempts if you don\'t know what it is you\'re subbing.

And about calling me a weeaboo. First of all, I think we\'re both past the point of \"weeaboo\". You\'re translating anime and distributing it over the Internet but I\'m watching it. Also, it\'s a completely baseless claim. I corrected you on how to spell character\'s names that were based on Lovecraft\'s characters. H. P. Lovecraft, if you didn\'t know, was an American author of horror short stories. If anything, you should have called me a Lovecraft fanboy or something along those lines. Don\'t just throw around random insults you heard one time on 4chan.

Finally, you\'ll notice that I never said fan translations were bad or immoral, just illegal. Yes, there is a difference.

  • January 30th 2011, 4:32 am

So you\'re also admitting that you\'re taking part in the \"illegal\" activities too? Please don\'t tell me you\'re going to deny that cuz I\'m just going to pull a \"lrn2logic\' on you. Also, I am a full Japanese citizen with a permanent residency in the United States (greencard). I only live in the States because my parents moved here. Now to counter the point of \"hard time translating\", it\'s not the translations that take time, it\'s the error checking, typesetting, and harsubbing the ED. The translating is the EASIEST part of the whole thing. Oh, on your point of using a word I saw on 4chan, I\'ve been on the internet for half my life, I wouldn\'t go around saying I\'m a newb to the internet if I were you. Next, for the point on Lovecraft, I admitted earlier that I had little to no knowledge on it. I know that, I accept that, I tell people that. There\'s not much I can do on that. Finally, why did we pick up this short series? Because NONE OF US HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE SUBBING, AT ALL. PERIOD. We aren\'t a bunch of hotheads pumped to sub and just jump into a regualr 24 minute series and drop/disappear off the face of the internet cuz we fail hard. We\'re all students so we have a LOT of work academically so juggling around the time to sub anime is difficult. Therefore we all agreed to pick up this short series to test the waters so to speak. If we could do this series fine, we will pick up a full series starting the spring season (Which looks extremely likely atm). Don\'t get me wrong, I don\'t like to argue/rage with/against people. I actually don\'t like flaming. The fact that we\'re using the romanization/phonetically spelled names isn\'t going to change. Sorry if that irritates you. Also this conversation is getting pretty ridiculous, can we just agree that things aren\'t really going to change and just get this over with?

  • Tuskus said:
    January 30th 2011, 4:14 pm

I have to admit that this argument is pretty fruitless, but the fact remains that you made a translation error and when somebody corrected you on it, you insulted everyone who actually knew what they were talking about. I doubt that my arguments will get through your thick skull, but for some reason I can\'t just let it go.

\"There\'s not much I can do on [learning about Lovecraft].\" Go to any library or book story and pick up an anthology written by Lovecraft. It\'s not like this shit is hard to find. Even a quick search on Wikipedia will at least give you the basics.

Like I said before, distributing and downloading fansubs is illegal. That\'s just a matter of fact. You have to admit that we\'re both breaking the law. But do you know what else is illegal? Jaywalking.

And good god, fix your site so you can allow line breaks in comments. These huge blocks of text reek of bad site design.

  • January 30th 2011, 7:05 pm

Ok, first and foremost all you\'re doing is completely twisting my words around to fit your needs. Never did I once say that there was nothing I could do about no knowing about Lovecraft. Second mistranslation? Is that really your argument? I don\'t see you bitching to ANN for putting up \"mistranslated names\". Go do that first before you start bitching to us. Thirdly, you want to try making a site like this from scratch? Be my guest, the way it is now is mind blowing to me how my friend managed to make this from NOTHING. We aren\'t some group who just installs wordpress or some EZ-Mac sort of shit.

  • Tuskus said:
    January 31st 2011, 5:20 pm

You clearly wrote, \"There\'s not much I can do on that,\" right after you said you had no knowledge of Lovecraft. Maybe you meant to say something completely different, but that\'s what you posted. No twisting your words there.

A mistranslation is when you mess up a sentence or a name when translating. You messed up the names when you translated this show. Thus, a mistranslation. And I could care less about what ANN says. If you knew anything about the show you were translating, you would know that the characters and their names were inspired by Lovecraft characters. Lovecraft\'s works aren\'t hard to find or too hard to read. Just know what it is you\'re translating instead of translating some random show just for the hell of it. Or at least be a little courteous when people correct you about your obvious mistake.

\"We aren\'t some group who just installs wordpress or some EZ-Mac sort of shit.\" Maybe you should if you don\'t want your site to look like shit.
